MR PEEBLES’S LECTURE.

To the Editor,

Bib, —I have not heard Mr Peebles lecture ; I have only read the report as given in the StAR. In his lecture given at the Queen’s Theatre, as reported in your issue of the 17th, he spoke as follows :—“ Another question was, ‘ Does not the Bible teach that punishment is endless?’” His reply is, “ There is no such word in the New Testament as applied to punishment, but the word endless is used with happiness.” Would Mr Peebles kindly tell us the w6ul thus applied to happiness, and the place in the New Testament wh re we may find it? Then he adds, “Hereafter there would be remorse and sorrow for deeds done in this state, but there would be an escape from these.” I presume this statement is his own, aud New Testament proof need not be asked. What other will Mr Peebles supply ? Querist.

I am n .t an advocate of anonymous writing, but when an interesting question is put, there can be no harm in the noni de querre.
