THE GAZETTE.

The following notifications appear in to day’s Gazette :—

Provincial Revenue. —The revenue for the quarter ended December last was L 122,943, and the expenditure L 67,542, exclusive of payment on loans, fee. The heads of revenue were—Sale of Crown lands, stock assessment and hundreds do., L 89.123; gold export duty, L 3.314 5s 4d; goldfields revenue, L6,(532 ; harbor dues, goat au l dog taxes, &c., L 2.393 ; grant from the General Government under the Public Works Act, L 2,298; do under the North Otago Loan Act, L 5,000 ; repayments, L 583 ; education, L 1,591 j licenses, L 6,230 ; miscellaneous L 5,193. The expenditure of the various departments is stated thus: Superintendent and Executive Council, L 80 8; Provincial Council, L 170; Secretary and Treasurer and Secretary for Lands and Works, 1.19,937 ; Goldfields, roads and works, L 29,352 ; Secietary and Treasurer, general, L 27,274. Reserves. —Specified lauds have been reserved at Southland for educational purposes ; at Winton, for municipal purposes, for a cemetery, and for the use of the Winton Agricultural and Pastoral Association ; at Riverton, for Western District Fanners’ Club; at Campbelltown, for the New River Harbor Trust; and at Invercargill, for a grammar school site. Protection of Animals.—-The Superintendent proclaims that the months of February, March, April, May, and June are the months in which native game may be hunted, shot, taken, and killed in Southland, the proclamation to take eliect -from the Ist March.
