COLONIAL PRIZE FIRING.

To the Editor.

Sir, — I would call the attention of the Dunedin public to the fact that, without the Southland men, Otago has 21 men qualified more than the requisite number (7). May I suggest that a subscription list be started to send at least ten men more. The expense of passage would be L 7 per man. or L7O in all. Jn a large and wealthy city like Dunedin, this would not be much. Say the suberiptions should be limited to ss, but to enable the poor as w ell as the rich to take part in the matter, any sum from Is to 5s should be accepted. lam informed other Provinces are subscribing. Oamaru has qualified one good man ; I would leave him to the Oamaru people. Tokomairiro has qualified three ; they could send two or all. ihe West Taieri has qualified two ; they could be left to their own district, I feel that the Southland people will nob be backwards, should their men be successful. Il some such steps are not taken, I fear for the new belt coming to Otago, as the old one has done for the last six years, I do not fear the seven men who have won the places will give a good account of themselves, but it must be remembered that they will have a stronger field to compete against than has ever been brought together in this Colony, and the assistance of a few more of our crack shots would be serviceable.—l am, &c., A Citizen.
