THE FIRE.
To the Editor.
Slß, Allow me space to correct an error in your account of the fire as respects my having been on the premises on Monday night. Your report conveys the impression that I had left the key of my shop at the latter place after having been inside on that night, whereas the statement should have been, as correctly made in the Times of this morning, that I intended going to work, but on arriving at the shop found I had left the key at my private residence in Hussell street, and therefore postponed the urgent work I had in hand till next morning, when I got there about half-p'st four. You also state the value of my stock at over L 400: my statement to your reporter was that my loss would be that amount, meaning above the insurance.—Vours, &c., Thos. George, Dunedin, January 15, 1873. [Our statement was founded on the police report, which we appear to have misunderstood. We may also state that Mrs Algie’s loss is by no means covered by the policy of insurance she held.—El). E. - s .]
