The steam dredge commenced work again this morning, close to the Railway Pier. The Scorm Bird arrived from the Bluff this morning, and steamed alongside the Duke of Edinburgh to coal. She reports leaving Invercargill Wharf at 1 p.m. on Sunday, and had fine weather along the Coast. The s.s. Maori, which was taken into Murray and Co.’s Floating Dock, last week, is being thoroughly cleaned and painted. Her cabin is also being redecorated, and the engines and boiler regularly overhauled. In addition to being cleaned, new outer bearings have been fitted to her screw-shaft, and a new stern-pipe put in. which will greatly lessen the vibration, and make her more comfortable for passenger traffic. The alterations are being done under tll6 management of Mr I>arling, Su-pcriiitendent of the Company. She is expected to be finished on Wednesday.
