FATAL FIGHT AT WESTBURY, TASMANIA.

Particulars appear in the Cornwall Chronicle (December 2o) of the shocking occurrence whereby Thomas Lindsay Field, eldest son and heir of Mr Thomas Field, of Westfield, lost his life from injuries received in a pugilistic encounter with another young man named Setou Williams, a son of the Lev Mr Widiams, of Wosthury. The deceased young man had but recently attained his majority, and was universally beloved and respected for his genial kindness of disposition and upright conduct. An enmity, which was chiefly attributed to the fact of Williams having been summoned by Mr Field for trespassing, had sprung up between the two young men, and more than one little disturbance had taken place between them. The deceased had heard a rumor about Westbury some months ago, to the effect that Seton Williams had asserted he would punch deceased’s head. This led him to send a challenge to Williams. They met not far from the cricket field where one had been playing, and fought for two hours and a half, but until the last half hour no serious damage was clone. b'ield then received several severe falls, and in an effort to rise from the last he fell back senseless He was so weak that he could not bear removal to his father’s house, but was taken to the house of the police superintendent, where ho died on Sunday morning. The medical testimony given by Drs. Rock and M'Creery, at the inquest, proved that death had been caused by concussion of the brain, exhaustion, and effusion of blood on the brain combined. Williams has been committed fop trial for manslaughter.

A bricklayer named Gilman has recovered LIOO damages in an aeflou against the Lon« dou Omnibus Company in the Lord Mayor’s Court for injuries sustained by him in falling from an omnibus, the driver of which drove on without giving warning while the plaintiff was alighting.
