Tiik holidays arc now over, ami most of those who have so thoroughly eujoyed'thc relaxation from care, whieh they are intended to induce, will return with renewed zest to the hard realities of their daily callings. Seldom has there been such opportunity in Otago, at this season of the year, to thoroughly enjoy Christmas and the opening of a new year. The weather Ims been warm and line; every circumstance has combined to invite to general enjoyment. It has been, in fact, a season to he remembered by all of this generation, for it has not only been marked by the ’ presence of his Excellency the Governor, hut also by the completion and opening for traffic of the 'Dunedin and Port Chalmers Ihulway—the first of those connecting links that arc destined to unite the interior with the principal seaports of the Province.
