A quartz reef prospecting claim was applied for to the Warden this day, in Leaning Bock Survey District, Dunstan commonage, about half-a-mile from Feraud’s disputed sections. The prospects are above the ordinary. Napier, December 20. In the rifle match between the Dunedin City Guards and the Napier Volunteer Kifle Club, the latter ftred to day, and made 411 points ; ten men each aide ; five shots each range, 400, 500, and 600 yards. Wellington, December 19. The Wellington leaves Auckland tomorrow morning for Wellington direct, with the Sau Francisco mail. She overtakes the Phcebe at Lyttelton, aud tranships to her the Otago portion of the mail. Mr W. P. Street is gazetted Clerk to the Bench at Dunedin.
