THE VOLUNTEERS.
The match between ten officers aud ton non-commissioned officers and privates of the battalion, was fired at the Anderson's Bay range, yesterday morning, on the following conditions, viz. : srven t-hots, at 200, 500, and 600 yards; Wimbledon targets and position ; Government rifles and ammunition ; no sighting shots, &o. The weather was all that could be desired, aud, as was expected, some good shooting was made. Owing to the absence of two of the officers, the match was shot by eiyht a-side only. Lieut. Douglas is the highest ecorcr f<>r the officers, with a splendid score of 70; and Sergeant Cowie and Corp. M'Grcgor tie as highest scorers for their antagonists, with 64. As will be seen from the scores, the officers were victorious by 15 points. Mr Cohn, of the Christchurch' Cavalry Corps, who was present during the shootine, kindly presented a breastpin, to be given to the highest scorer, which article he afterwards changed to a silver cup, and it was won by Mr Douglas.
