CORPORATION OF PORT CHALMERS.

The Town Council of Port Chalmers held their regular meeting on Wednesday, in the Town Hall, Present—His Worship the Mayor; Councillors Bolton, Morgan, Innis, M Kinnon, Neil, Easton* Miller, Murray. A letter was read from Mr Mansford, Corporation Solicitor, intimating the necessity of appointing a collector for rates, when it was unanimously agreed that the Town Clerk be appointed. A requisition was read, signed by about sixty of the inhabitants of the Port, calling the Council s attention to the bad state of the pump in George street; and it was resolved that the Public Works Committee be instructed to look at it; with power to act. Another requisition was read, signed by nearly the whole of the inhabitants, asking the Council to erect a public bathing place, and stating that there was a fine site round Observation Point, close to the One-gun Battery. It was resolved that a Committee be appointed, consisting of Couccillors Bolton, Eason, and M urray, together with the Engineer; and that they be instructed to draw a plan telling the probable cost, and to bring a report of the same next meeting. It was also resolved that the Clerk be instructed to write to the promoters of the Port Chalmers Bail way asking the cost of bringing and taking back daily twelve or twenty prisoners from Dunedin for Corporation works at Port Chalmers. Phe Public Works C ommittee report was read and adopted, and it was resolved to asphalt the footpaths in Mount street, Grey street, and George street, and that tenders be called for the erection of a new pound. Accounts were ordered to be paid to Hugh Mclviuly, LI7 18s8d; George Stumbbs & Co., 1.4 ; J. G. Wright, L 5 for deposit money on contract, and a lunher sum of L 75 for works carried on.

The Council was then adjourned until tha day foruight.
