THE RATTRAY STREET SEWER.
To the Editor. Sin,—The Otago Daily Times has for some time been noted for what it perhaps regards as a judicious reticence in certain matters. A striking instance of this occurs in the report published in yesterday’s Times of what passe- 1 at an interview between a deputation from the Corporation and his Honor the Superintendent. In dealing with the question of the Rattray street sewer, his Honor said, if your reporter is to be trusted, that “the land bought by the Daily Times originally belonged to Mr Birch, who discovered the sewer, and in consequence relinquished the purchase and received compensation, He should think the Daily Times Company knew of its being there.” 1 find not a word of this in the Daily Times' report. Did his Honor really say so ? Like Rosa Daitle, in “David Copperlield," 1 only ask for information, you know.”—l am, &c , Simplex,
