THE WESLEYAN DISTRICT MEETING.

The district meeting of 1872 was brought to a close on the ‘2lst inst., when the follow* mg list of appointments for the circuits were agreed to Christchurch—Revs. Jas. Buller and W. B. Marten. F. W. Isitt. Port Chalmers and Waikonaiti -Rev, J. T. Shaw. Lawrence—Rev. W, H. Beck. Roxburgh -Rev. G. K. Hcwlitt. Tunaru—Revs. W. Lee and F, Dewsbury. Invercargill— Rev, G S. Harper. Oamaru—Under the charge of the Timaru minister. N. B. Revs. A. Reid, W, Kirk, J. Rishwortb, F. Bull, and T. F. Reeve, will receive appointments in the Auckland and Wellington districts. The annual report upon the state of the Connexional property was read by the Rev. J. Aldred. "It, appears that there are in the district forty-nine churches, the total cost of which up to date has been L 31,148 13s. Twenty of these arc free from debt; upon the others there yet remains a debt of L 5417 8s 3d. Twenty-four of the churches are in* sured in various offices fora total of ■ 18.550; the remaining twenty-live are uninsured. There are 77. ; 3 sittings in these churches. The total iuec.me for the year from seat rents, &c. has been L 2097 os, the income in every case except one exceeding the expenditure. The value of the church sites is estimated at L 2920. Nine parsonages have been erected in the district, at a cost of LSUBI ; four of these are without debt, the total liabilities upon the remainder being L 2082. They are insured for L 3475, There are several schools in connaetion with the churches, and seven others in detached buildings, the estimated value of which is L 2251. It was resolved that iu the event of a separate Conference being established in New Zealand, that the meeting recommend the division of the district into two, to be designated the Canterbury and Otago Districts respectively.
