THE INTERCOLONIAL BOATRACE.

The Balmain regatta took on Nor. 9. The principal event, and the one m which most interest was displayed, was the Interoolouinl Gig-race, for which three crews only started. The weather was splendid, with a light north-east wind and smooth water. The flagship and every point on Balmain and Sydney was crowded. The start was made at ID ruin. 45 see. past 12, Melbourne slightly loading, the River crew all behind. t'efore leaving Pyrmont the Sydney crew gradually drew up, and at Balmain had a length’s clear lead. The River crew also improved their position from this point. Of! Goat Island the Melbourne men fell into the third place ; and in the pull to the Vernon, the only change which took place was that a greater interval was placed between the boats, the Sydney champion crew taking a splendid lead from the start. The Melbourne men pulled at the rate of 37 strokes a minute, the others slightly lower. The finishing point was passed by Sydney at 38 min. 30 sec. past 12, the River crew being a mife astern, and the Melbourne crew half a mile behind them. Each was lustily cheered.
