Colonial Industries. —The following, r m a Melbourne exchange, is highly satisfactory :—The manufacture of porcelain ami china-ware will soon be reckoned amongst the industries of the Colony. A company has recently been formed called the Victorian Porcelain and Earthenware Manufacturing Company for working tke patent, of Elude and Wilson. That the mannfaoUu-e can be successfully carried op has been proved liy the experiments of Mr Elude, who, with very rough appliances, has made some very good specimens of chinawarc from clay which is said to abound in the vicinity of Melbourne. We were shown yesterday a couple of small jugs in what is called “stone china,” which, notwithstanding that the work was only experimental, were very well turned out, and would have passed muster amongst a good deal of the imported chinaware. According to the calculations which have been entered into, the cost of manufacture here will bo no greater than it is at home, and as the cost of importing articles of this description amounts to'more than 100 per cent on the original value, the Colonial made articles will have every advantage. Matters have so far progressed that the company, we are told, is about to sep,d to England for a p,uml',e-r ftf skilled workmen, and will, without delay, commence the erection of the necessary buildings.
