SALE OF THOROUGHBRED STOCK.

Messrs Bird and Bjauett, of Christchurch, held their annual sale of thoroughbred stock on the 13th inst., but a very small proportion of the horses offered changed hands. The attendance was numerous, but the bidding was devoid of animation. The lots disposed of were as follow Mr Redwood’s c!i c I‘apapa, by Eaveusworth, out of Waimea, nominated for the Derby, 187*3, was knocked down to the Ron. W. Robinson for L3lO ; Mr Redwood’s Reliance to Mr H. Prince for LSJ ; Mr Griffiths’s Gossip to Mr N. Haines for 1-77 10s ; Mr Douglas’s Dragon to Mr Ray for L 33 ; Mr Douglas’s Adonis to Mr Baron for L3l ; Mr Courages Batsman to Mr Brabazan for L 45 ; Mr Courage’s Brunswick to Mr Wallis for L3(J ; Mr Ball’s General to Mr Cooher for L3O ; the brood mare Tarndale, to Mr Griffiths, for L 3 5; the brood mare Wing, to Mr R. H. Campbell, for L3l ; Slanderer, by Traducer, to Mr Tancred, for L4O. Several other horses were sold, but none of any note. Mr Walters’ Peeress was put up, but did not reach the reserve of LSOO—JL4oO was the huffiest bid, and was therefore passed. Mr ISosworthy’s splendid entire Talisman was also offered, but no one ventured near the mark at which he was to be sold. The reserve was LIOUO, but there was no honajidc bid after LoUO. Mr Redwood’s Teranga, Dead Shot, Kakapo, Awatea, Mystery, and Malvina, together with Mr Griffith’s Defamation, were offered, but none of them reached the reserve put upon them, and were therefore passed.
