CORPORATION OF PORT CHALMERS.

The regular meeting of the Town Counci ■was held on Monday evening, in the Town Hall. The Mayor presided, and Councillors Inncs, Neale, M'Kinnon, Miller, and others were present. After the usual correspondence had been read, Councillor Miller withdre wins motion for rescinding the appointment of the Surveyor. Plans and specifications for the erection of a public pound on the former site having betn tabled, Councillor Murray moved that they be received and referred to the Works Committee, Captain John Kouden and Sergeant Colder were, on the motion of Councillor Innes, seconded by Councillor M’Kinnon, appointed Fire Inspectors. Councillor Innes moved, and Councillor Neale seconded, that the building of a retaining wall be proceeded with. Councillor Murray moved, and Councillor Miller seconded, an amendment, which was put and declared by the Mayor to be lost. Councillor M'Kjnnon, who supported the amendment, contended that Councillor Miller had voted for the amendment, and wished a second show of hands to be taken. The Mayor admitted that Councillor Miller might have had his baud raised, but not in such a manner as to indicate that he had voted for the amendment. Draft Regulations, Nos. 1 to 8, proposed under Schedule No. 13, Municipal Corporations Act, 181)7, were read by the Town Clerk, and the consideration of them deferred to a special meeting, to be held on Wednesday' next. The Town Clerk said that in compliance with instructions, he had communicated with his Honor the superintendent; respecting the granting of prison labor. Councillor Murray’s motion, “ That power be obtained from his Excellency the Governor to annex reclaimed lands within the boundaries of the town,” was carried. The Mayor called attention to the removal of the platform for hauling up boats, and placing it on the metalled road in Beach street, without permission of the Council, and it was ultimately agreed that a deputation, consisting of the Mayor and Works Committee, wait upon the Harbor Master, with a view to having the grievance remedied.
