SCENE IN A CHURCH.
Tnc Bishop of Winchester has inhibited the Rev. Mr Wilkins, of Swan more, Isle of Wight, for kissing his stole in the pulpit of St Michael’s Church, Southampton, on the occasion of the re-opening a few days since, and his lordship has also called upon the Rev. F. M. Gregory, the vicar, to offer explanations as regards the use of incense and the performance of other practices contrary to the Rubric on the same occasion. There was another scene at the church on Sunday evening. The Rev. Herbert Smith, who publicly protested at the opening festival against what he had seen, had taken his scat in the centre aisle, and on the entrance' of the vicar he rose and said he felt it to be his bounden duty to expose him. “What,”. du: ' Mr Smith, “is to be done with you who set at defiance tne authority of the bishop and churchwardens ?
