Venice and Milan have been visited by a fearful hurricane. In the latter city the strongest trees were torn up by the roots, 50 being levelled in the Lazaretto alone. One of the cupolas of the Observatory was blown down, the roof of the Pol-teama Theatre was carried away, the actors being in the midst of a rehearsal ; and chimneys, gutters, and tiles flew about like hail in a thunderstorm.
