A COLONIAL JUBILEE.

The Melbourne Aryus observes, on the proposal to bold a mustical festival in Melbourne:—Mr Coppin has given us a rough outliue of the great musical festival which he has undertaken to organise at the end of this year and the beginning of next. The intercolonial musical festival is to consist of seven musical entertainments, given, as nearly as £U‘Ct}U49tt)>nge will permit, upon the model of the Bbstpn (U.S ) Jubilee. These will take place on Thursday evening, 2(lth December (Boxing night programme) ; Friday evening, 27th December (Victorian night) ; Saturday, 2Sth December (in the afternoon for juveniles, in the evening the New South Wales night); Monday evening, 80th December (Tasmanian night); Tuesday evening, ,31st December (South Australian night) ; Wednesday evening, Ist January, 1878 (New Year’s night). Mr Coppin will, we understand, endeavour to obtain talent of a representative character from each of the colonies above named. At present the local names connected with this great undertaking are those of Signor Biscaceianti, who has been retained as acting manager; Signor G'iorxa, musical director and organist t and Signori Smini ftnd ‘Cecchi, whpse‘names appear upon a list of vocalists which will doubtless soon grow to gveater strength. Signor Ciorza has been commissioned to compose a Christmas cantata, and an Australasian jubilee medal is now being struck for presentation to the ladies and gentlemen who assist at the first intercolonial musical festival given in the Australian colonies. It will be seen from the foregoing that this is an undertaking of no ordinary magnitude.
