A Disappointed Politician. —Commenting on Mr Stafford's memorable declaration that the time had arrived for him to carry into effect his determination to wind up his affairs and leave the Colony, the Mount Ida Chronicle says ;—“ It is not that Mr Stafford really fears for the country under the administration of his more progressive and adventurous rival. The truth is that he feels, and feels keenly, the refusal of the Governor to grant his most unreasonalde request for a dissolution. With all his notions of economy, he would not have hesitated to have put the country to the turmoil and expense of a new election, the result of which, so far at least a's a majority in his favor was concerned, was, to say the least of it, extremely problematical. Though, therefore, we regret that the country will lose the services of one of her oldest settlers and most able statesmen, we cannot but think that by his recent hasty and testy action, Mr Stafford has clearly shown that he is utterly unable to govern himself, and consequently unfit to govern a country. 1 '
