The following return of the European and Native population, taken from the Colonial Treasurer’s Budget, is suggestive. Otago heads the list in the number of Europeans ; but Auckland, with its native population of 23,227 souls, added to 04,337 whites, making a grand total of 87,564, puts that Province in the first rank of consumers.
