WASTE LAND BOARD.
The usual weekly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was hold yesterday. There were present—the Chief Commissioner, Mr J. T. Thomson (in the chair), and Messrs Allan, Reid, and Hughes. The application of Mr J. B. M'Culloch, on behalf of Mr Mark Walkem, lessee of the Powder Magazine, for a lease of the Quarry Reserve near the Powder Magazine, Vaux* hall, as a site for a dwelling house, was de. dined. Air John Anderson object el to Mr Tweedie having a lease of Run 44G on the Rarest Range, Waikawa, and claimed priority to Mr Tweedie in the discovery of the land, Mr Cuttcn’s remarks Upon pha matter read, and it was resolved that the lease of the run be sold by auction on the usual terms. The application of Mr J. G. Gardner, for whom Mr M Keay appeared, to purchase sections 2G and 3‘J, block IV., Table Hill, was returned by the Government, who would not reconsider the matter. A petition from storekeepers at Manuka Creek, objectiug to the sale, was referred to the Warden for his report thereon. The application of Mr John Creighton to purchase part of his residence area adjoining section 2, block ill., Kaseby, was refeired to tfte Warders. '( he request of Mr 0. T. Marie, for per* mission to increase tlie maximum price of coal at his pit, near Clyde, from 15s to 20s per ton was agreed to. ' The application of Mr John Lawson for a sawmill license at Waipori Bush’'was agreed to on the usual conditions, the terms to commence from Ist June, 1873. The report of Ranger Hughan oa a com* plaint that Mr Chapman, of Hyde Home Station, had closed roads through the run, was read. Ranger Hugl+au reported that the roads closed up had had been disused ft considerable time, and suggested that a road bo opened up from a point on the main road leading from Grout's Station, to the Steeple Creek bush. Tiate all further occasion for complamt. It was resolved that a road as suggested by Mr Hu chan be laid off for the public. Messrs G. G. Russell and Co., as agent? for Messrs Stuart and Kinross, requested that the lease of Run 333 be put up for sale in February, 1873, being twelve months before the expiration of the present license. It was resolved that the land be assessed and leased, and that the land be sold on the usual terms twelve months previous to the expiry of the license, agricultural laud to be reported on. . Mr Joseph Johnston applied for authority and protection to prospect for coal over an area near Brothers point, Baxter, whose six months’ term of the area was unexpired, having been sentenced to two year s imprisonment. The Board resolved it could not interfere. Messrs Mouat and M‘Kcay made application on behalf of a client, for authority to prosecute a person for illegal occupation of Crown lands on a mining reserve at Tuapeka Flat. It was resolved to request the Warden to report on the case.
