THE VOLUNTEERS.
The second competition for the Cup, pre* sented by Captain Copeland and Lieutenant Leary to the North Dunedin Rifle Company, took place at Pelichet Bay on Monday last, the ranges being .‘IOO, 400, and GOO yards, live shots at each. The weather in the morning was favorable for shouting, but the wind was strong for the afternoon squad. Some good shooting was made at the several ranges, especially that of Scrgt. Pollock who scored 19 at 300 yards and 17 at 400 yards. He was, however, far under his average at GOO yards, when Vol. Frew, who was considerably behind, got ahead Vol. Douglas was the successful competitor iu the first match with 44 points, and although he tried hard to be in again was unsuccessful.
