The total number ot victims by the disaster is unknown. Seven dead bodies have been recovered, and twenty-two passengers were injured, some fatally. Germany. The Emperor of Russia and Grand Duke Vladimer arrived at Berlin on September 5. They were met by the Emperor and Prince Fredrick William, and a large number of other German princes and ministers, with the Chancellor Bismarck at the head, and the most famous generals of the army and the chief dignitaries of the Imperial Court were also present. The Czar on alighting was saluted and embraced by the Emperor in a most cordial manner. The two Emperors entered tho same carriage, and passed slowly through the streets amid the cheers of an immense multitude. Tho Imperial carriage stopped at the Russian Embassy, into which tho Emperor Alexander was conducted, when he was visited by tho Empress Augusta and the Princess Victoria, wife of the Crown Prince. Lrter in the day the Czar proceeded to the Imperial Court, where he was received and entertained by the Emperor William and Court. After making quite a long visit, tho Czar returned to tho r.mbassy. The Emperor of Austria met with a most enthusiastic reception, from the people in his progress through Germany, and in Berlin on the evening of September 6. Precisely the same ceremonies were accorded to him as tho Czar. As the two German Emperors rode side by side through the streets, the popular enthusiasm was even greater than on the day before. Since the sale the market is firm, and prices well maintained, with a fair enquiry. New Zealand flax sales were flat, and the hulk was bought in. 700 bales were sold at a decline of 20s to 25s .a ton ; middling, L 32 10s ; oood, LUG; tine, L 39. Kerosene is inactive, although prices have been advancing, and still have an upward tendency. The markets closed firm. Devoes. 32c. Oysters and lobsters are scarce and firm. Dried apples firm. At the Boston wool market, wool is in fair request; sales of New Zealand, 55c. to 59c. Wheat—New York, Idol. 20c. San Francisco, Sept. 11. The Olympia, with the Nebraska’s passengers, has not arrived. The Idaho is engaged by the agents of the lino to make up the lost time. Breadstuffs heavy ; transactions in wheat, Idol, 60c, ; flour, sdols. 50s. The latest Live pool quotation of wheat is dated September 9, 12s lOd per cental. Wool at San Francisco dull, 10c. to 18c. Freights scarce and high.

The election of Alderman O’Grady as Mayor is coosidersd certain Sir James M'Culloch’s appointment to the office of Agent-General will be sent home by next mail. A meetting of the agents of Insurance Companies carrying on business in Melbourne is to be held to'consider the advisability of the introduction of an average clause into policies. One Charles Hubbard, who had been addicted to drinking, banged himself. Tho value of property is everywhere increasing. Tho Adelaide’s cargo of teas, consisting of 8, OIK) packages, was declared at satisfactory rates. Oats are quoted at 3s 4d, and flour at Ll3 10s to Lls. 448 hogsheads of Martcll’s pale brandy were quitted at 6s, aud fine old brandy at 6s to 7s 6d. Hcnnesay’s case brandy has been sold to arrive at 26s 6d, Sugars sustain late rates. Braby’s corrugated iron is at 48s. Adelaide. A telegram from Palmerston, Northern Territory, states that fifty miners are returning from the Roper diggings. Many of them have gold specimens got from the reefs. The diggers, however, are dissatisfied at no alluvial gold being found. A man named Charles Harvey, who had lately arrived from New Zealand, died from sunstroke at Palmerston. Wheat is at 5a Gd, aud flour at Ll2 10s to Ll3 10s. The market is quiet. Newcastle. Arrived. —Electra, and Camille, from Wellington ; Australind, from Lyttelton. Brisbane. A diver named Guscombe died in the water at Eockharapton, from apoplexy. The drought on the Isaac River stations is rendering it necessary for the sheep to be sent to the coast.

A union washerwoman in London has been committed for seven days for attempting to intimidate a sister of the tub who had not stood out for union terms. In a recent thunderstorm at Birmingham, large pieces of ice fell for a period of half an hour. They were greater than ever had fallen there before during human memory. The claim was referred to appraisers, who estimated the damage at L 25.
