THE VOLUNTEERS.
The return match between the Port Chalmers Naval Company and the Porto hello Rangers was fired off on Wednesday. The conditions were -Ranges, 300, 400, and 500 yards, five shots at each ; Wimbledon targets ; position —standing at 300, kneeling at 400, and any at 500 yards. This time the Portobello men were victorious, the scores being—Portobello, 215; Port Chalmers, 198. At a meeting of the Council of th« Otago Rifle Association, held last evening, it was resolved that the prize meeting of the Association should take place on the Friday and Saturday of the second week in December, the 13th and 14th of that month respectively; that the last day for receiving members’ subcriptions be the 29th November, and that; members could pay their subscriptions thfl various Company representatives. A challenge was received from the Kifle Association of Japan. The challenge was accepted, and it was resolved to authorise Lieutenant Muir to communicate with the Japan Association, informing it of tb? acceptance of the challenge, and fixing conditions of the match.
