THE CORPORATION OF PORT CHALMERS.

The usual meeting of the Town Council was held last evening, in the Town Hall. There were present:—The Mayor, and Councillors Murray, Miller, Easton, M'Kiunon, Neale, and Bolton.

The following business was transacted: — Accounts were passed for payment for the sums of L4B Is 8d and LlO, due Mr Thomas for kerbing, &c.; L 346, Mr Hunter, for flagging George street; L4O, balance of engineer’s account for preparing plans and specifications for water works, and sundry accounts amounting to LSB 8s Bd. The application of Mr Thomas for progress payment on account of kerbing in Grey street, was deferred ; and the following tenders from Messrs Morris and Wittack, for gravelling footpaths in Island terrace, L 6 lOs ; Daly street, L 4 10s ; Bemicia street L 5 ss; aud Magnetic street, L 4, were accepted. The following motions were carried ; That plans and specifications be called for certain works in Constitution street; that the Town Clerk be instructed to write to his Hor or the Superintendent respecting his promise to supply prison labor for constructing a road towards the Lower Harbour from Beach street ; that the rates for 1871 and 1872 be made payable on or before November Ist prox. ; that the Engineer receive instructions to measure the kerbing in front of properties in George aud Mount streets, and that notices be served for collecting the rate ; that the To vn Clerk be instructed to write to Sergeant Golder, offering to re-appoint him Inspector of Nuisances at former salary ; that L7OO be transferred from Deposit to General Account { and that the corners of the streets in front of the Harbor Office, Custom House, and that leading from George to Grey streets be flagged. The Council then went into Committee on water supply.
