Auckland, Sept. IG, Latest unpublished (August 20). Beports of the Cel-mans fortifying Belfort in violation of their treaty obligations are declared to be unfounded. ' They will only complete the works commenced by the French Commandant during the siege, and which were left unfinished. The Third National Bank of Baltimore was robbed of 100,000 dollars on the night of the 19th August, and an unknown amount belonging to private parties. The riots at Belfast are not yet suppressed. Four men were killed on the 18th August In the hospitals there are many victims of the riots, and a large number bear bullet ■wounds and sword cuts. The latest telegram says the city is about to be placed under martial law.

It is rather remarkable the great depth at which mining is in some cases pursued in Victoria in quartz mines. The New North Chines has a shaft down 1024 feet, and is about to drive to test the reef at that depth. The Magdala Company isdownOoU feet, and it is believed that the reef will bo struck some distance lower. This shaft will soon have cost the Company L 20,000 without a speck of gold having been seen. There a a statement that the first company that obtains gold at or below 1000 feet will receive a Government bonus of LIOOO. Wellington, Sept. 17.
