Payments of balance of r 10, due Mrj Thomas for kerbing, Ac,, in Ge rg* street, I was heid over until the Engineer was cou- ! suited ; and balance of Engineer’s account, L4O, for preparing plans and specifications for Water Works, was left over until next meeting. Payments passed : Solicitor, L 8 16s 81; dayman, L 9 ; laborer, 9s 6d ; stationery account, L 5 9s 6d. The Mayor complained that ho had receive! no notice of the meeting of the Finance Committee, to which those accounts had been submitted. Councillor Murray observed that ho thought that the Mayor was 100 ready to find fault with the committee on this matter. The meeting had been called in the usual way, and was held in the Town Hall. The Mayor was not present, aud the acc mnts had been passed. It the Town Clerk bad failed to scud notice to the Mayor, it was nob the fault of the committee, who, he believed, would have been glad had the Maj r or attended. The Mayor repeated that he did not get notice. He did not desire to take upon himself anything but w f hat was clearly his duty to undertake. He would be willing at any time to attend those meetings, but did not desire to vote, aud would be happy to give any information that would tend to promote the welfare of the town. He noticed that Councillor Innes was giggling; but he questioned if Councillor innes knew as much about the town as he did. Councillor Innes having replied, the question was asked by Councillors Millar and M organ as to who should convene the committee meetings. This led to a long discussion, but nothing definite was arrived at. The application of the School Committee for kerbing, &c., in front of school-house was then recommended; after which a number of specifications, with power to call for tenders, were referred to committees. The question of who should preside at committees was again raised. The Mayor said that, as he had been thwarted by some of the Councillors, he would convene all the meetings or none. Councillor Innes wished it to be understood that he did not object to the Mayor being present, but objected to him contending that he had a right to preside over the committees. Councillors Murray, Morgan, and M'Kinnon said they would be glad If the Mayor would attend those meetings. Councillor Murray then proposed that the Mayor be chairman of all committees. Councillor Easton moved that each committee appoint its own chairman. The Mayor then abruptly left the chair, and the mooting had a confused termination.
