CAVERSHAM ELECTION.
The polling for a member to represent Caversbam in the House of Representatives, in the room of the late Mr Cantrell, took place to-clay, and excited considerable interest in the various portions of the district The result was announced shortly after six o’clock by Mr Strode, the Returning Officer. The returns give Mr Tolme a majority in all the districts except Anderson’s Bay. No efforts were made to secure votes for Mr Richmond, who consequently had only one vote recorded in his favor. The numbers polled were—
Mr Tolmie addressed those present at the declaration; but Mr Arthur did not put in an appearance. The official declaration of the po'l takes place on Saturday.
