WASTE LAND BOARD.

Y ESTERDAY. The Board met at noon. Present—the Chief Commissioner of Waste Lauds, Messrs Allen and Hughes. Mr A. M. Ross’s letter about extension of time for completing surveys in his district, was considered, and he was referred to the decision the Board came to on the 30th July last. The applications of Henry Lyons and Co., M. Instone and Co., Paterson and M'Leod, M‘Diarmid, M'Leod, and Co., for mineral leases, near that applied for by Mr Brunton, were postponed for a week. Mr Brunton was requested to give the Board a sketch of the boundaries of his application. The application to purchase seven acres, portions of blocks 12, and 24 and 25, Waihola Town, was declined. The application of the Town Council of Cromwell, that a piece of ground should be leased or sold conditionally that it should be sown with grass to prevent the sand blowing about, was considered. The Board decided they had no power. It was decided that the sale of bush on blocks 10, Waipori, and 15, Maungatua, should go on. It was resolved, on the application of Edward Burns, for an additional acre for lime burning, that he should make a survey ; and if no objections were raised, his application should be considered, Andrew Knight’s application, to purchase 30 acres of bush reserve, Goodwood, was declined. On the report of the Ranger, D. O’Halloran’s application for a reduction of rent was refused. Theophilus Daniel was instructed to furnish a sketch of the district in which he proposed prospecting for tin and copper ore, when his application would be considered. T. Dunnolls’s application for an extension of time to prospect for minerals at Poison Bay was declined. A. Jack applied for a coal lease for Thomas Russell and Thomas Toms, near Alexandra. He was directed to furnish a survey, when the application would be considered. It was resolved that notices be sent to licensees that if their rents were not paid proceedings would be taken. Mr Douglass applied for a lease for the Otago Antimony Company, and submitted the consent of the innholder. It was resolved that a lease be granted at L 5 a year for the first two years, and Ll an acre per annum afterwards for fourteen years. Protection for six months was given to John Baxter, on the ' application of Air Harris, for a mineral lease near Brothers’ Point. The Board, in reference to the uncompleted survey of Mr M'XeJlar’s application, recommended him to employ the District Surveyor to complete it properly.
