District Road Board Elections.— The nomination for the Sandymount subdivision of the Portobello district, took place yesterday at noon. The candidates were: — Messrs E. Aitchffon, G. Boyles, W. Dick, J, Thomson, D. Weipers, and Samuel Morris. The show of hands was in favor of Messrs Aitchison, Boyha, and Dick. No poll was demanded, and these were therefore declared duly elected.

With her customary benevolence, Mrs James Smith is endeavoring to obtain subscriptions on behalf of the youth Sutherland, who was injured by becoming entangled in the machinery of the flax mill at Blueskin, We understand that amputation of the right arm lias been found mcessary, and that the lad has no friends in this part of the country, we shall, therefore, be glad to receive subscriptions on his behalf at the Evenimj Star office, and to hand them to Mrs Smith for him. We .consider it a case worthy of assistance.
