There has been no news received here from Fiji since the arrival of the Seagull, ten days agp. The Cros'u letter refers to some petty local dispute against Thurston, the head of the Go* ▼eminent, which it is believed he has exaggerated. Private letters aud Fijian newspapers say nothing about it; and people here knowing Fiji say the news is most iiuprobab 1 e in every respect. '2.3. p m. James Smith, engineer of the Kuranui Battery, got entangled in the m&chinerj-, and had his leg torn off from the knee. There is a general improvement in tho Caledonian mine. Queenstown, August 20, Che case of Eager v. Grace was settler! out of Court. The terms are L4OOO to be paid Eager; each party to pay his own costs, which on Grace’s part arc enormous. The settlement was effected by Messrs Macassoy and Cook.
