Nelson, Aug. 19. 12.10 p.m., received 2.1 p.m. The criminal session of the Supreme Court opened to-day. There were only four cases for trial, but none were of great importance, judge Richmond alluded to the awakening interest in law reform, and said he should be clad to see any scientific reform of the pnnciphs of law, but deprecated patchwork. Such reform as he alluded to was less easy to initiate than was generally believed.
Wellington, August 19. The reported outbreak of Te Kooti is contradicted. He is merely visiting the West Coast with a few followers. Owing to the General Government neglecting to invite the Provincial authorities, the opening the Hutt Railway to-day will probably be a failure.
