MAYOR’S COURT.

This Day. (Before the Mayor, and Dr Harding, J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. William Connelly, having been locked up since Saturday night, was discharged with a caution. Dennis Beighler was lined 5s ; Jno. M'Carthy, ICs; Wm. Hattel, alias Hartley, os; Gardner Curtis, alias Turner, 5s ; Jas, Mahon, 10s ; George M, Binnie, 20s, or three days’ hard labor ; and John Davidson, 40s, or fourteen days’ imprisonment. John Davidson was further charged with being a habitual drunkard ; but not appearing, a warrant was ordered to issue for his appre* hension. INDECENCY. Colin Allan M‘Donald was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment for this offence. BYE-LAW CASE. Samuel Townsley was tiued 20s for driving horses without sufficient reins. THEFT.

Kemieth M'lvor, alias Campbell, alias Stewart, was charged with stealing a ring. It appeared from the evidence that in Ajiril last the prisoner obtained the loan of a ring from a man named Sutherland, a lodger at the Nonpareil Dining Rooms, which he promised to return the next morning, but he did not do so. In July the ring was taken to the shop of Mr M. Levy, pawnbroker, Rattray street, by a mau who gave his name as Stewart, and who said that the ring belonged to him. Ha obtained an advance of 12s upon it, Mr Levy declining to purchase it as he wanted him to do. Mr Levy was unable to swear to the prisoner being the man, though he believed him to be, aud prisoner admitted having sent the ring to be pawned, but said he did not take it himself. The Commissioner of Police said the prisoner had not been convicted before, but had been under police surveillance for some time. The Bench sentenced him to a month’s imprisonment, with hard labor. Janies Burnett was again brought up, charged on suspicion with stealing a quantity of tobacco, &c. Detective Farrell produced a telegram from Sub-Inspector Moore at Clyde, to the effect that the part of the property found on the prisoner—two picks—had been identified there as stolen property. On prisoner’s application the case was remanded till to-raorrow, to allow of the attendance of his counsel.
