AUCKLAND.

The Auckland City Council have initiated steps for procuring money for supplying the city with water. From our Auckland files we make the following editorial gleanings : Tfie temperance movement is creating an unwholesome state of feeling in Auckland. K, A. are carrying on the discussion in such a way as reflects credit upon neither, and is very likely to disgust the more temperate minded of the public. The Star says there no longer remains a doubt of the successful establishment of the Frcight.Company, and marvels that the commerce of Auckland should so long have home with the incubus. The main object is understood to be, not so much the subscribing of a certain amount of capital as the inclusion of overy importer and exporter of the City, and that is claimed to have been attained. The limit of shares and capital originally proposed has been already reached; but from the sprit manifested, and also in order to establish tiie company on a broader and securer basis, it was resolved to increase the capital by fifty per cent, A proportion of shares is reserved for English capital, and provisional directors were appointed, consisting of all the principal merchants of the City. The outgoing mail will convoy instructions to London appointing an agent, and enclosing the funds requisite for commencing operations ; so that a vessel will he forthwith despatched for Auckland—the pioneer of the trade.
