PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.
The regular meeting of the Port Chalmers Town Coxmcil was held last evening m the Town Hall, present the Mayor, Councillors Bolton, Gordon, Easton, M‘Kmnon, Innes, A. letter was read from Mr I arnach, calling the Councils attention to an oversight m the debentures, no place haviug beeu mamed for the payment of the capital, though thiec places (London, Melbourne, and Dunedin) were named for the payment of the interest. The letter was referred to the Corporation s S °On t Councillor Bolton’s motion it was decided to call for tenders for Currie street and Wickliffe terrace; but a motion for building a retaining wall at the far end of the terrace was negatived, as the suggested improvement would only give two feet extra width to the road. . p The Council next considered the letter of its solicitor (Mr Hansford) on the the subinct of the proposed Waterworks Bui. A proposition by Councillor Neil, to consider the matter in committee, was met by a counter one by Coimcillor M ‘Kumon, that it should be discussed publicly; ami the latter s motion was carried. Councillor M Kinnon then moved that Mr receive no instructions to p oceed to V. elhngton. He contended that the proposed Bill was not required. as in his opinion, the Act ot lb7l save the Council all the powers it wanted. 6 The motion was carried, as was a resolution by Councillor Bolton that a mputation, consisting of the Mayor, Councillor M Kmnon, and the mover, wait upon Mr Maoandrew, member for the Port, to ask him to take charge of the Bill, it one was found to to stop all further action in regard to the Bill pending the application to Mr Macandrew. , , . A return of the money expended in connection with Mary street was ordered to be laid on the table. Un ~ The Mayor promised to call on Mr Lamwell, Governor of the Gaol, in reference to a hulk for the accommodation of prisoners to be employed at the Port, and it was agreed to lease the hulk Henbury at LlO & A gracing right was granted to Allen for three years, at LlO a year the Belt to be fenced by the lessee.
