WASTE LAND BOARD.

The Waste Land Board met at 3 o’clock on Monday and at noon to-day. Present on both occasions—the Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Messrs Hughes and Reid.

Monday. A letter was read trom Messrs Cargill and M'Lean offering to open for sale on tneir run 20.000 acres of laud. It was agreed to open 20.000 acres for sale under the terms of the 83rd and 123 rd sections of the Waste Land Act, 1866. This Day. On James Baird’s application to purchase section 20 of 85, block 6. North Harbor and Blueskin, at 10s an acre, it was agreed, on Henry Connell's application, to have sections 102 and 103, block 5, Otepopo, put up for sale at 10s an acre, and that the land should be advertised for sale by auction. Connell and Hoodie’s application to purchase 92 acres on run 350, for Mr Low, was approved, A. further report from the Ranger on Mr Maitland’s fence was read.

lb was resolved that the 10 acres applied to purchase by John Cargill, oa section 3, block 13, Dunedin, be sold by auction as land of special value, having been so long withheld from sale. Upset price LI per acre. Survey expenses to be added to the upset price, and paid by the purchaser. The Commissioner was authorised to take action against Messrs Wrightson and M*JEus for illegal occupation of a coal pit. Afterwards to be advertised as open for application.

The Board recommended the Government to refund to Messrs G. G. Russell and Co. money received for acreage found to be deficient. Messrs Connell and Moodio applied to have certain lands at Glenomarn surveyed for sale at 10s an acre by the district surveyor. The Board replied that they had no power, as the Government had given no notice of their intention to sell the land at that price. The applicasions of E. Malone, R, Matheson, Herbert and Co., and W. Tyson to purchase land under agricultural leases were approved. Permission for three months was given to Stephen Rowe to prospect for coal on block V, Tuapeka East. On the applicatian of Henry Connell on behalf of W. H. 'i eschemakcr, E. M. Webster, and Robert Campbell, to have the time for survey extended, the district surveyor was directed to be advised of the neces r ity of completing the surveys within the time required by the regulations. Mr B. Robertson’s application for permission to form a tramroad through the town of Kinloch was granted until the land is required for sale. No compensation to be allowed. Andrew Thompson was requested to apply for 25 acres in Hawksbury Bush in anotner spot, that for which he had applied having been previously applied for, and under smvey. Mr Keuastou’s telegram requesting that the decision on the proposed sale of land to Cargill and Anderson be postponed for three weeks, was read and considered in connection with Mr Cargill’s application. The application of Messrs Cargill and Anderson tQ purchase 20,000 acres iq the Teviot district, was read and considered. A letter from the applicants was read, intimating their consent to suspend their lease on run 199 on 20,000 acres, as shown on a plan produced. It was agreed that the application be received and registered (the Chief Commissioner not voting); the survey to be made by the applicant (Mr Hughes objecting. Air Brown’s letter was read objecting to a valuation for improvements being allowed on section (39a, block 14. It was resolved that the Board was of opinion the land was of special value, having been improved by buildings, etc., and that the sale proceed under the 64th section of the Waste Lap 4 Act, ISG6, and that the valuation for improvements I)e added to the agreed price.
