MAYOR’S COURT.
This Day. (Before His Worship the Mayor.) DRUNKENNESS. William Mitchell and John Parquharson were fined os ; James M'Grath and James Charles Williams 10s each, with the alternative of 48 hours’ imprisonment. OVERLOADING A DRAY. Richard Galvin was charged with ill-treat-ing a horse by driving the same with an overloaded waggon up Stafford street. From the evidence of Sergeant Nimon and a spectator of the occurrence, it appeared that the defendant had attempted to drive a four horse team up Stafford street with a load of 75 bags of oats—a five or six ton load. One of the horses fell; but the load was ultitimatcly taken up, the witnesses and carters, who were not called, considering it a case of gross cruelty. The sergeant said waggoners made it a practice to come into town with only four horses, as by doing so they saved toll. Sergeant Mallard corroborated the statement, and said frequent comp'aints had been made on the subject. _ Waggoners stopped out of town, generally just beyond the toll bar, and only brought four horses into the City, and these they made do the work which eight to do. This was done to save tollage. The defendant was fined 20s and costs.
