Novel Export.— Mr W. A. Murray, M. H.R, informs the Bruce Herald thathe is sending a quantity of grass to Melbourne to have the fibre tested. He is of opinion that it is equal to the Esparto grass so largely used at home for the manufacture of paper, and can be obtained in large quantities and at little cost. A High Premium. — We hear that the brig Our Hope was in such imminent danger of going ashore at Oamaru last week, that 95 per cent, premium was refused by Insurance agents. The brig was right in among the breakers, and her doom appeared to be sealed ; but as our readers are aware, fhe managed to clear off the laud and get to sea. Up to yesterday the brig had not returned to her anchorage. A Sharp Retort, Some strong language appears to have been used in the course of the “no confidence” debate in the Victorian Assembly. For example, Mr Duffy, in replying to some observations made byMrHarkcr, said his remarks were “the result of the black bile of personal malignity.” Later on in the debate, Mr Harker replied in these terms : He should state facts, which, if such a thing were possible, would bring a blush to his (Mr Duffy’s) cheek ; but that was not possible, for so me years, ago, when in a position of danger in his own country he lost all the colour from bis cheeks, and it had never since returned.
