WASTE LAND BOARD.

The usual meeting of the Waste Land Board was held at noon to-day. There were present Mr Reid (in the chair) and Messrs Hughes and Bathgate. Respecting the application of John Porteoua to have section 66, block 1, Waikouaiti district, put up for sale. It was resolved that the same should be put up for sale by auction. Upset price 25s per acre. The application of J. R. fGoscoagne to purchase section 194, block 2, Tuapeka east, was granted. A report from Ranger Innes, on Bush Reserve, block 10, Dunedin and East Taieri (Brockville) was read. A petition was received in favor of the sale of the site (of the Naseby Waterworks Reservoir, and ordered to be referred to the Warden for examination and report. Respecting the application of G. W. Goodger to purchase 30 acres of the town of Cromwell, it was resolved to get 12 sections of 5 acres each laid off adjoining the western boundary of the township, and offer the same for sale by auction at an upset price hereafter to be fixed by the Board. A report was received from Ranger Innes, recommending certain boundaries for sheep in the Waikouaiti Hundred, and the Board approved of the boundaries as recommended. The application of Mr N. J. B. M‘Gregor to purchase sections 19, 20, 30, and 2 of 31, block 3, Dunedin and East Taieri district, was agreed to. Messrs John Penscn and Charles Baiun wrote to enquire what inducements would be offered for opening up the Preservation lulet coalfields. The Hoard resolved they should be informed that the usual protection to prospectors over any land not already leased would be granted.
