THE VOLUNTEERS.

The second competition for the Dunedin Volunteer Artillery’s Challenge Belt was held at the Anderson’s Bay Range on Saturday afternoon last upon the following conditions - viz. 5 shots at ranges of 300, 400, 500, and 600 yards ; Hythe position at the two first ranges, and any position at the latter; Wimbledon target; no sighting shots ; Government rifles and ammunition. The weather could not have been better, hut the shooting, owing to the lateness of the season, was indifferent. The following are the scores of those above 50 points :

Reid and Lambert having tied with 59, shot off, the former winning, und consequently holds the belt for the ensuing sixmonths.

A match was fired on the 27th ult. between twelve of the Napier Rifle Club and twelve of the Scottish Company. Napier won by 66 points, the scores being—Napier, 464; Dunedin, 394. The ranges were 400, 500, and 600 yards. The full scores of the Napier men are not yet to hand.
