MORNINGTON SCHOOL.

To the Editor

Sir, —I was rather surprised to see an advertisement in your issue of the 4th iust., for a schoolmistress for Morningtou district school. As it is well known that the present schoolmistress is giving very general satisfaction, and is very much respected by both parents and children, and I am credibly informed there is a belter attendance of children at the school, at the present time than at any period since the establishment of the school. There must be some misunderstanding on the part of seme of the school committee, as I understand the reason the present schoolmistress has resigned, is because the committee have reduced her salary, and strange to say, are now offering the same terms to her successor, namely, the Government allowance and seventy-live pounds from the school committee. I think this is a matter for the inhabitants of Mornington to flock to, as it is not only very had for the interests of the children to

change teachers so often, but it will also ge the district into bad repute amongst th female teaohers, and the consequence will b that no really efficient female teacher, wil accept an appointment in Mornington school. Apologising for taking up so much of your space, I beg to subscribe myself A Resident in Mornington. Mornington, sth June, 1872.
