Quartz Mining.—Considerable difficulty is experienced at times by persons imagining they have discovered valuable quarts reefs in determining the probable value of the stone. We are authorized to state that Professor Black has expressed his willingness to test specimens presented to him* and to specify their
relative values compared with the Auckland reefs. This will enable persons desiring investments to enter upon mining claims with some knowledge of their prospects. St. Paul’s Sunday School. —On Sunday afternoon the Rev. E. G. Edwards presented the annual gift of prizes .to those children in the Sunday School to whom they were awarded. Amongst them were five special prizes provided by the teachers to those who were best acquainted with the principles of Christianity. The prizes were awarded as follows :—Girls—l, Jessie Kenwig ; 2, Jane Edhouse. Boys—l, Cyprian Webb; 2, Samuel M‘Arthur. And a special prize was given to Donald Mitchell for answering questions well. Several members of the congregation were present.
