Wild Deer for London, early. Wellington for Northern Ports, May 29 The announcement on Wednesday afternoon that » steamer was coming past Coco Head, with the mail flag flying, was a relief to many who were expecting friends, and a pleasant surprise to the community at large. It turned out, however, to be the old Mohonga, “double-endcr,” formerly a Government vessel, which having been bought by private parties, was in the absence of any other available boat put on for Honolulu for this trip. It is needless to say that, while safe enough, she is quite unfit for the purpose, either as to size or sea-going qualities. Sailing from San Francisco on the 29th ult., she was compelled when only a short distance on her voyage to put back, on account of a crack in the steam chest, arriving in port again, after some difficulty, on the _ 3rd inst. The daily papers of the sth, contained a letter addressed to the United States Supervising Inspector signed by some twenty-four of her passengers, setting forth at length several reasons why in their opinion the ship was unfit, in her then condition, for the transportation of passengers by sea. On the 4th, the Inspector made a survey of the ship, and certified that when the plate on the steam chest, which was cracked, was replaced, she would in every respect he ready for sea. The necessary|repairs;having been made, the ship sailed again on the 6th, arriving here on the 17th, without any further mishap beyond the smashing in of her wheelhouses by the rough sea encountered. — Honolulu Gazette, April 20. The Nevada on arrival at Honolulu would lay up for repairs, so that our next mails will be brought by the John L. Stephens or the Ajax, either of which is well fitted for the voyage. The steamers will then run through to ’Frisco on their return. The Dacotah has not yet been put upon the berth. The Moses Taylor wili not be laid on again. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. ARRIVED.
