The brigantine Emulous was, on Thursday afternoon, towed from Dunedin Hay to Port Chalmers and berthed alongside the barque Hydra to load coals for the Bluff. On the way down an accident occurred which might have been attended with fatal results, had it nob been for the prompt and skilful seamanship displayed. At the time that the Geelong began to tow the Emulous, the boat belonging to the latter vessel was towing alongside with two of the crew. One of the men unfortunately fell overboard and, immediately after the boat was seen to capsize. With commendable promptitude the painter of the swamped boat was let go. and as soon as possible the Emulous was anchored. On perceiving the accident on board, the Geelong was stopped ; the towwarp was let go, her boat launched, manned, and in a few seconds, was away to the rescue of the two men, who were found clinging to the swamped boat. After taking them on board their vessel the boat was picked up, and the Emulous again in tow, proceeded to the Port. The Emulous sailed for the Bluff this forenoon.
