Shipping. —The Hydra, from Newcastle, with coal, was seen off the Ocean Beach yesterday. Interesting to Wesleyans. The following items will be|of interest to members of this church : “The Queen has sent to the Rev Samuel Atkinson, Wesleyan minister, Newport, Isle of Wight, a donation of LSO in aid of the new Wesleyan Sabbath schools at that place The “ Recorder” says this is the first donation given by Her Majesty on behalf of any Wesleyan object.” The Canterbury Press says :—“ It is intended to hold a grand gathering of Wesleyan Methodists in the month of June next, when Handel’s * Dettingen Te Deum’ will be performed in the Durham-street Wesleyan Church by a body of voices numbering over 120, and an orchestra of 50 or sixty instruments. It is anticipated that the number present on the occasion will not fall far short of 2000, as the time will be fixed in the moonlight nights so as to allow of outlying friends coming in, and special trains will be arranged for on the Northern and Lyttelton line, if possible. Members of all the musical societies in Christchurch, together with some of our amateurs, have come forward and proffered their services in the kindest possible manner, and the promoters will only be too glad to get the help of any amateurs who may wish to come forward and assist in the production of the work. Mr Landergan has promised to conduct on the occasion, and Mr Robert Parker will preside at the harmonium,” Advertisements received too late for Classification. pEINCESS THEATRE.
