Port Chalmers. —Mr James Smith last evening delivered his lecture on “ Wit and Hunger,” in aid of the Mechanics’ Institute, at the Royal Assembly Rooms, Port Chalmers. The attendance, though good, was not so large as might have been reasonably anticipated. The Mayor, before putting a vote of thanks which had been moved by Dr ' i’Donoghue, stated that it afforded him much pleasure in being able to state that through the valuable assistance given by Mr Smith and other gentlemen, the Mechanics’ Institute would at the end of the present financial year be out of debt. The vote of thanks was then put to the meeting, and carried unanimously. Advertisements received too late for classification. pEINCESS THEATRE, Lessees - Messes Geodes & Willis.
