A Novel Present. —The agricultural correspondent of the Greg Hirer Argus for the Grey Valley, has been presented with a testimonial by the farmers up river. The gift was in the substantial form of a ton of horse-feed. Lecture. — To-morrow evening Mr James Smith, formerly Parliamentary Librarian in Victoria, and at present LVlitor of th q Australasian, will give a lecture in the Masonic Hall on “ Spiritualism.” Mr Smith has been many years known in Melbourne as a most .able lecturer, and on whatever subject he speaks, new ideas may be anticipated. Princess Theatre. Roses” was repeated last evening to a fair bouse, and to-night Mr Tavares will appear for tbe last time, A good bill has been put forward—the play of “ Ingomar” and the screen scene from “ ’i he School for Scandal.” The management are very busy preparing the three act drama of “ Time and Tide” for Monday. It will be well placed on tbe stage, with good mechanical effects, and new scenery. One scene, Waterloo Bridge, and a view of London, is said to be exceedingly good. A Novelty. —What may fairly he considered as something new in Dunedin, took place in the Octagon last evening, at about eight o’clock. It appears that the St. Pati’ick’s Brass Band mustered outside the Criterion Hotel, and serenaded Professor Haselmayer, who in return for the compliment paid to him, invited not only the band, but “ all and sundry,” to refresh themselves at bis expense. His invitation was freely responded to, as about 150 persons availed themselves of Mr Haselmayer’s liberality. Tbe Professor, in what may be called his first performance, evidently “ astonished the natives.” Concert, —The fourth concert of the Dunedin Choral Society will be given on Tuesday evening, at the University Hall. The first part, after the rpfasi-authem “ God Bless the Prince of Wales,” will comprise gems from the “ Creation ” ; and the second part will consist of choice selections of secular music. His Honor Mr Justice Chapman, President of the Society, will give an address during the evening. Wo anticipate an excellent concert.

Me Macandeew, M.H.R., Will address the electors of Port Chalmers on Monday, May 6th, at 7 o clock p.m. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Commercial Building and Investment Society for receiving subscriptions, &c , will be held on Monday evening from six to eight o’clock. The second annual general meeting of the Third New Zealand Building and Mutual Investment Soc ety, will be held at the old Masonic M all, at the back ot Wain’s Hotel on Tuesday evening, the 30th iust , at 8 o’clock, when the directors’ report and balsncc-sheet will be presented. It will he seen from our advertising columns that a series of lectures, under the auspices of rhe Dunedin Mutual Improvement Society, will be delivered by Mr James Smith, from Melbourne, during the next few days. To-morrow (Sunday evening) Mr Smith will deliver, by request, in the Masonic Hall, an address on “Spiritualism ; on Monday, in St. George’s Hall, on “ Shakespeare, the dramatist and the man.
