A REPLY.

To the Editor, Sib —I have read the two letters which appeared in your paper last evening, and, as I trust you are willing to give me fair play? I would ask your indulgence to publish the following few remarks. I would premise by Baying that, no matter what the provocation, I do not intend to continue this newspaper controversy. |, . , First, in reference to Mr Geddes. As he has seon tit to repudiate the charges I have brought against him, I am bound in common courtesy to accept his denial. At the same time it is due to myself to explain a little matter which Mr Geddes has not touched upon; and it is this-that knowing the tactics the lessees of the Theatre were likely to adopt, I was, in self-defence and in the interest of my principal, bound to protect myse'f I had good reason for believing that Mr Geddes, had he known 1 was negotiating for the use of the Masonic Hall during Professor Haselmayer’s stay here, would have spoiled me. I may mention that I made an offer of eighty pounds for two weeks for the use of the Theatre to Mr Geddes, which he declined ; and it was quite apparent, therefore, that it was useless to attempt to do business with him. And now for the chivalrous Mr d. r. Hydes. As this gentleman is prone t> making use of stale quotations, I will also indulge in one—“A Daniel come to judgment 1— Yea, a Daniel" Just imagine Mr Hydes talking about “commercial integrity!” Wonders will never cease. , . Once more apologising for encroaching on your space, I am, &c,, Alkx. Eobxnsok, Agent for Professor Haselmayer. Dunedin, April 24, 1872.
