The London wool sat|i|;opened on the Bth February, and continue'cPat an advance of 2£d to 34d per lb. on all descriptions above the prices obtained at the last series. In some special instances even this rise was evceeded. 80,000 bales passed under the hammer, manufacturers’ stocks being light. Latterly the competition was leas spirited. Tallow has been in limited demand in consequence of the large home melting. Mutton was lower by 3s per cwt., aud besf by 2s 6d per cwt. The sales amounted to 3000 cwt., and the stocks 0300 cwt. Sydney oils fetched 33s to 375, and sperm 565. Hides are in good demand, and a slight advance has taken place. Leather is firm. Horns and bones are in good request, at extreme rates. New Zealand hemp is eagerly bought, and the supply is inadequate to the demand. The panic on tho Stock Exchange, caused by the Alabama complications, has passed away, but the markets are still very sensitive. Little business is doing in Consols, which are steady at 92J. The Bank rate is 3 per cent, and discount is easier. The English, Scottish, and Australian Chartered Bank, and the New Zealand Loan an I Mercantile Agency Co., have declared 12J per cent, dividends. Shares in the latter are' at J to 1| premium ; in the New Zealand Trust and Lean Co. at 14 to 14 premium; and in the Otago and Southland Investment Co. at par to ,} premium. A large increase lias taken place in the imports of Australian wool. Two new r Atlantic cables are projected. Australian securities are firm. New Zealand Fives, Consolidated, are at 102, and do Sixes at 113. The total value of the exports for the mouth shows a decrease of L 372.500. To New Zealand the decrease amounts to L89,G00. SHIPPISCr. Arrived.—Coroailla, from Lyttelton. Sailed. —Wild Deer, for Port Chalmers ; Thames, for Wellington. Loading. —Ten vessels for New Zealand. Freights to New Zealand are from 35s to 40s per ton, for general goods. Auckland, April 18. There was a grand luncheon on board the Nevada yesterday. A number of invitations were issued ; the principal merchants of Auckland and the various consuls were present. The Wellington sailed at one o’clock from the Manukau direct with the outward mails.
